Labour members in West Drayton ward have now selected their candidates for the upcoming Hillingdon Council elections which take place on May 5th 2022.
Members have selected: Scott Farley, Mohammed Islam, and Jan Sweeting.
Scott Farley
Scott has been a Councillor since 2018, and has been recognised for his excellent work by being nominated and shortlisted at the Local Government Councillor awards. Scott is the Labour Lead on the Environment, Housing and Regeneration Select Committee and Secretary for his local Labour Party branch.
Scott’s achievements as a Councillor include: securing the resurfacing of road and footpaths, upgrading children’s playgrounds, and successfully lobbying for CCTV to deter antisocial behaviour. If elected, residents will be used to seeing Scott walking around the ward, reporting issues and talking to residents about their community.
Mohammed Islam
Mohammed has been an active member of the Labour Party for 11 years, and has been embedded in his local community. He also has a local business in the ward, and is a trustee of the local mosque.
Mohammed has a strong campaigning record both within and outside of the Labour Party, and also uses his skills in his role as Chair of the West London Bangladeshi Association.
Jan Sweeting
Jan has been a Councillor for West Drayton since 2014. She lives in the ward, is a governor of two local schools and secretary and founder member of an effective local residents association. She was Deputy Headteacher at West Drayton Primary School before becoming an officer in the Education Department of Hillingdon Council.
Jan has been an effective Labour Lead on council committees, and is a regular contributor at Council meetings. She has led several high profile local campaigns which have succeeded in halting an industrial waste plant being built locally, and one which facilitated the clean up of local rivers. She has worked and campaigned tirelessly to deliver better facilities for the local area, resulting in the long awaited Leisure Centre.
